Raonic still searching for that elusive grand slam title — COMMENTARY

Let's see. Going to be interesting. Cilic, who won the U.S. Open in 2014, will be playing the quarterfinals at the All England Club for the fourth straight year.

Murray's injury flared up during the match and he went down in a thrilling five set match to the American.

Federer, bidding to reach an 11th final at Wimbledon, said, "I've got to figure out a different way, carve my way through somehow with my slice and my spins, my consistency". He emerged briefly again at his favorite tournament but lost in the Wimbledon semifinals to Milos Raonic. He recovered in Halle to win the title, his record ninth crown, without dropping a set.

Murray met with his team on Thursday to discuss how best to manage the injury, with the US Open less than seven weeks away. These other guys are all big hitters. "It's unfortunate I have to finish Wimbledon like this".

His serves barely eclipsing 100 MPH after a hard-fought but futile first set loss against Tomas Berdych. He held with an ace, 6-4, after 31 minutes. Obviously his movement was terrible, and as a result of that he couldn't push off his legs so his shots didn't have any penetration. In no time, he was another break up and leading 5-1, and the crowd was entering into the free-hitting spirit of the tennis, cheering every winner. "I'm sure my coach Craig (Boynton) will look at those results and tweak a thing or two". My knee is not well. Colourfully overstated but his point was well made.

Novak Djokovic is considering taking a break from competitive tennis to recover after a long-standing elbow injury forced him out of Wimbledon on Wednesday. "If it means training and doing the right rehab and stuff, then I'll do that", he said in his post-match news conference. If he gets through that, there's no need for you to adjust your TV set: It's just Roger being Roger.

For Raonic, who has struggled with injuries over his past two seasons, that counts as something of a win. "I think that was the most sort of defeating thing".

The world number one battled a hip problem all tournament and lost 12 of the last 13 games in a five-set defeat on Wednesday. So it's not a good sign.

Federer eased to a 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (7/4) win over Milos Raonic to become the second oldest Wimbledon semi-finalist of the Open era.

He's hardly the first to realize that, of course.

The last time the pair met at Wimbledon, the Czech caused a boilover on Centre Court, winning in four sets. Federer owns a career 18-6 head-to-head record against Berdych, a 3-0 record against Querrey and a 6-1 record against Cilic. Last year, he defeated then world number 1 Novak Djokovic in the third round. Stay tuned to see how the action unfolds at Wimbledon 2017.

It's fair to say that the title is Roger Federer's to lose. "I was really lacking practice, really", he said.

"This year, I'm a tennis player normal, which may focus on their tactics". I'm rested. I'm fresh.
