Apple officially unveiled the iPhone X, alongside its preoder and release date, and it is indeed the most futuristic smartphone to date.
The new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were also announced, with Mr Cook calling the phones a "huge step forward" for the device.
Specifically, the company claims its new "neural engine" is capable of performing "600 billion operations per second" - while battery life has been extended for an additional two hours per charge. A new feature called portrait lighting will allow users to select lighting effects in portrait mode. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8, the iPhone X's screen stretches from top-to-bottom and side-to-side. The iPhone 8 Plus has a horizontal dual camera set-up, while the iPhone X has a vertical dual camera set-up. The GPS + cellular Apple Watch Series 3 will be $559 and $599 for 38mm and 42mm respectively. It's entry-level 64GB version starts at $999.
"For more than a decade, our intention has been to create an iPhone that is all display". And the home button? They will run on a new chip, the A11 Bionic.
The home button remains on iPhone 8, as does Touch ID. Priced almost the same.
Along with the new iPhone models, fans got to see the Apple Watch Series 3 for the first time.
Some analysts expect the new phone to spark a "supercycle" of upgrades. The current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus now start at $549 and $669, respectively. It has a Super Retina display, which uses OLED technology and has the highest pixel density yet in iPhones, Schiller said.
With a variety of apps, users will be able to view information as text or images, or video-game environments, with their physical surroundings in the background.
