Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola questions Yaya Toure's future before Feyenoord clash

YAYA TOURE has been left out of Manchester City's Champions League opener at Feyenoord despite being fit, while goalkeeper Ederson could play wearing protective headgear.

The former Barcelona midfielder was left out Guardiola's plans at the start of last season having returned to pre-season training overweight but his outspoken representative Dimitri Seluk insists this is not the issue this time around.

The Brazilian was influential in the game at the weekend and has impressed during his opening games as a City player.

"I spoke with him and he knows the reason why but it's between him and me", the City manager said. "We will see in the next weeks but I think it will be soon when he comes back and fights to play". Last season it was just Arsenal [who City beat at home out of the Premier League's top six].

Now managing in China with Hebei China Fortune, Pellegrini had a chat with Futbol Tactico, relayed by Sport, where the Chilean discussed the Cityzens' woes last season.

"Kevin is one of the best players I've ever seen in my life".

The top five were not so decorated with Manchester City players this time, with Antonio Valencia and Paul Pogba coming third and Fifth.

Guardiola was careful to temper his own joy after two such comprehensive wins. He is a top, top quality player. Guardiola praised Toure's role in his side that gave them the balance, experience and control he was searching for.

"Hopefully [he will play again soon], it depends on him".

"He's so stable and he has the mental quality".

"After the game he was speaking to the boys as if nothing happened".

The stats below show that the passing stats are dominated by Manchester City players as the side sit in second place with 10 points. The step for the English teams - the local teams and national teams - is to do that: win one, or be close and then say: 'OK, wow, we are there'.

Guardiola was also delighted with Stones, who headed in twice, as well as looking assured in defence in a comfortable evening for City.
