"I found my focus and found my health and those are the keys to the game", he said. Branch eventually tapped out to the strikes.
Also at welterweight, former All-American wrestler Gregor Gillespie grappled his way to a chokehold submission victory over Jason Gonzalez in the second round.
But is he the same Luke Rockhold, serious in the Octagon but embracing every bit of life outside of training camp? He's grown bitter, and who can blame him? In the women's atomweight co-main event, former Eddie Bravo protégé Kyra Batara (6-4) faces off with Jenna Serio (3-2).
Bisping is scheduled to fight George St. Pierre in November.
The first round was up in the air, but the 32-year-old ensured there'd be no need for the judges' scorecards.
"I'm happy we got the win".
Fight Network, the world's premier 24/7 multi-platform channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, presents three live mixed martial arts events this weekend, highlighted by the live prelims for UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: Rockhold vs. Branch on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The former UFC middleweight champion defeated David Branch by TKO on Saturday night at UFC Fight Night in Pittsburgh.
"I'm coming for that belt": Luke Rockhold. It was a chance to prove he belonged, that his career rebound was the real deal and not just the end result of facing lesser competition. And while Branch wasn't the fight he was expecting to get for his return, it's a fight, and Rockhold took it. That led the jiu-jitsu-trained Rockhold to take him to the ground. The one who is an absolute destroyer of souls on the ground. "I might have. They posted (my knockout of Jake Ellenberger) this week and said it was the 'Knockout of the Week.' He might have seen that and replayed it in his head". Rockhold held his opponent against the fence.
After the fight, Rockhold took the opportunity to send a message to St-Pierre. "You better back out", Rockhold. Don't embarrass yourself 'GSP', just back out. Rockhold has always been something of an entitled athlete; that's the sort of thing that comes along with growing up with money, good looks and superb athletic traits. Bisping won't fight Rockhold.
So Rockhold will go on being unhappy. You're going to get crushed. Since then, it's been a waiting game filled with injuries, rumors, and more waiting.
