Gov. Brown orders flags to half-staff on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

By the time the U.S. Secretary of State received the intercepted message, the Pearl Harbor attack was well underway. Japan launched the surprise attack with airplanes and submarines on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor. The Navy veteran passed away in 2012.

"National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day - 'A day that will live in infamy!' December 7, 1941", Trump tweeted on Thursday morning. It was the greatest loss of life ever in an attack on a U.S. warship, the National Park Service says.

In his speech marking the attack on Pearl Harbor, FDR spoke of "a date which will live in infamy".

He was on the opposite side of the Oahu island when the Japanese bombed the USS Arizona.

The war, as we know, altered geopolitics for the rest of the 20th century and ushered in the nuclear age with the atomic bombs that forced Japanese surrender and ended the war in 1945. "11/7/1941 Thank you to all military for your courage and sacrifice!"
