Brazil right back Dani Alves out of World Cup after knee injury

Brazil's right back, Dani Alves, has been ruled out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia owing to a knee injury he suffered while playing for Paris Saint-Germain.

A spokesman for Alves claimed he would need 'at least three weeks' to recover from the knock but reports in South America now claim he will not be able to travel to Russia at all.

"Close examinations confirmed the initial diagnosis of an anterior cruciate ligament injury, requiring surgical treatment", a statement read on the Brazil Football Federation website on Friday.

Alves, 35, is one of the squad's most experienced players with 107 caps. Click any of these buttons below!

"The technical team of the Brazilian national team feels for the event and wishes Daniel Alves a prompt recovery so that his technique, commitment and leadership are back at the service of the national team as soon as possible". "Dani Alves will be operated on when the condition of his knee permits".

With his side's victory over the lower league side this week, the Brazilian has increased his title haul to 37 in his career.
